HPE P222 questions

I was using my microserver with B120i mode. It has few drawbacks but it worked until recently. It seems like my WD Red died, so I'm considering other options with new drives. My main reason to use B120i was silent fans. They are at 6% with B120i but at 20% with AHCI mode. At 20% they are too loud for my home environment, especially at night.

If I would buy P222 raid card, what about fans? Can I expect fans at 6%?

Also I wonder about necessary drivers. I'm using Linux and B120i was a challenge to run. It required proprietary drivers, it prevented me from upgrading my OS because HP didn't release new drivers for half a year, it ties me to RHEL/CentOS. I have no idea how P222 works with Linux. What protocols Linux uses? Do I need to install proprietary drivers or Linux will work with that card of of the box?

Well, I've read few topics that without modding P222 is just extremely hot, so I guess, it's silent fans is not about P222, unless something changed since 2014 year.
