Linux WOL with PCI-E NIC that supports unicast packet

Recommended Posts

Integrated ethernet port supports wake on lan with magic packet and targeted (unicast) packet, when running on Windows OS.

On Linux, TG3 driver supports only magic packet (ethtool : g).

I decided to add a PCI-E NIC on my N40L & N54L (with latest hacked BIOS 41). Both NIC cards support several WOL modes on Linux (ethtool : pumbg).

Each NIC card has a different chipset (Intel or Realteck).

Unfortunately, only under Linux, WOL with unicast packet does not work, only magic packets wake up my two servers.

On Windows, WOL works perfectly with unicast packet so it's not a problem of ARP cache.

Does someone succeeded to make WOL working with unicast packet under Linux ?
