Shall i Upgrade my processor

I have a HP Micro Server G8

  • Windows 2012 installed on a SSD,
  • x4 4TB disks WD disks configured with RAID5
  • Attached to a RAID controller

The micro server is my ISCSI storage for my 2 ESX hosts.

I was thinking about upgrading the Processor in the Micro Server to a Xeon  – However unsure if the Micro Server will benefit from a faster processor?

It is a home test lab with near 10 VM’s – includes my file share and movie share.

Any thoughts?

If you are telling about ISCSI benefits from upgrading to Xeon there should not be some significant.

Your HDDs are attached to PCIe RAID controller as far as I get it... So you processor will not affect it's perfomance as it is not software B120i RAID.

All you should do is monitor your Microserver CPU load for some time to see if you have got some bottlenecks. Yor final decision will depend on what you see.
