Possible cheaper memory option for RAM?

Was eyeing over the specs sheet for the Gen10 and came across the memory specs as in attache dimage

Does this not infer that cheaper DDR4 is an option if you buy the entry level Microserver?

Probably still cheaper to just buy 1x8gb of PC2400 if that's what you need, but buying 2x16GB could be quite a bit cheaper if you only need PC1600 or PC2133

Good thought, it will be something to watch. Currently, I do not see much price difference on speed variants for DDR4 UDIMM ECC. Hopefully in the future as supply catches up and demand for faster parts increases there may be deals on PC4-1600T speed parts. I have not bought memory lately. Back in March I bought these for the MS Gen10 beta:

Qty 2 Crucial CT16G4WFD824A 16Gb Ddr4 2400 Mt/S Pc4-2400 Dimm 288Pin Dr X8 Ecc Unbuff Cl17 for $295.98

Now they are $350-$400 for the pair!

Yeh current DDR4 pricing is awful. I'll just make do until it comes back to a sensible level. Unless someone in UK wants to sell me their 8GB stick after they upgrade of course ;)

I am thinking to add more memory to my Gen10 X3216, the NOTE that is given at the end which says 1600 MT/s memory speeds are supported is confusing.

I have 8GB existing, what are my options? Do I buy the same part number or can I put a better memory from Crucial or Kingston? RDIMM?

No to RDIMM, UDIMM ECC is what you need. I always try to match modules, but a second module with similar specs should work. Even though the x3216 does not run at 2400, you can use 2400 or 1600 memory with it.

The supplied memory is 2400. What do you suggest I buy? There is a Chinese seller selling this brand called, Hynix 8GB for 97$. Is this any good? The default RAM is about 135$ without shipping.

SK-Hynix is a good brand, but the module that you linked is not ECC. I would look for a module that matches the one you have.

Sorry I missed the ECC detail in the ad. I am unable to find a good price on 8GB module. Plus, don't know which brand is better. I might rely on buying a used module or server pulled that never went into production.

Will 2RX8 work in X3216?

That should work. Samsung makes good modules, plus it is HPE branded.
