DJI Spark iPhone RC Direct Connect?

Recommended Posts

jsox

iPhone 6S, IOS 11.1.2

DJI Spark, latest firmware (as of 11/30/2017)

Tried 3 different known good OTG cables (in that they work with a mouse) attached to the remote control with a known good USB-lightning cable (in that it works with a PC and iTunes) attached to the iPhone. In every case

1. power up the drone

2. power up the RC, wait for green-light connection

3. attempt to connect the iPhone

Tried various sequences of plugging in the cables. I got nothing at all with some, at best I got a connection (with DJI Pro 4) for a couple of seconds, then the iPhone complained about unsupported accessory or something like that and the connection dropped.

I did some research and ordered one of these https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0747FDRWG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that hasn't come yet. So far I've found no reliable RC-> iPhone connector and so I continue to use WiFi. I'll report how that cable works when I get it.

Just wondering how others are doing...

I have a cheat sheet somewhere. I'll find it and show you how I do it.

Off the top of my head.

Phone

Bluetooth off, wifi off

No cable connected

Controller on

Spark on

Wait for green light

launch DJI app

acknowledge prompt about usb something something

connect cable to phone, connect to controller.

wait for ready to fly prompt or something like that.

Check wifi in app, should show no data.

The cable I ordered arrived. I've used it several times and it has worked fine each time so far.
