Memory for Microserver Gen8

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I will be running Xeon 1265Lv2 on my MS.

Could anyone please recommend some compatible memory for this server?

I'm lookig at either 8 GB or 16 GB (2x8 GB?) upgrade. Part numbers or specificcations highly appreciated.

Also, did anyone have success running 16 GB in one stick on this server?

As my signature shows I'm using ECC KVR1333D3E9SK2/16G that I had moved over from my Gen7 MS some time ago.  You can find more info in the forums at:

There are some links in the "Sticky" Thread that are a good place to start http://homeservershow.com/forums/index.php?/topic/5639-proliant-microserver-gen8-links/

such as

RAM must be non-registered ECC. Registered RAM will result in a bootup loop at 90%.

So in general, if I'm not mistaken, I should be looking for PC3-10600 ECC memory with 1600 MHz speed, right?

Before purchase, it's good to check wether it's not among the known-not-working list?

Check HPE's MicroServer Gen8 Quickspecs for the definitive https://www.hpe.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04128132.pdf

Download HPE's Quickspecs AND their Maintenance & Service Manuals (links in the Forums, on Blog, and you can google).  Study those.

Personally, I would only get RAM that Other's have confirmed as actually working in their machines.  I'm using slower RAM than I could (depends on CPU) but the price was right, just depends on your situation and preferences.

I'm looking at Kingston KVR16LE11/8 module, which is 8 GB to combine with the 4 GB which comes with stock server.

If it works, there should be 12 GB of RAM in the system.

I did a bit of google on KVR16LE11/8. Says it "should work" with MS Gen8, although I didn't find any posts where users confirmed it working in 8GB+4GB configuration.

Fingres crossed, as memory is not subjected for a return.....

  • 2 weeks later...

Unfortunately the shop called today and told me that they "cannot fulfil my order for KVR16LE11/8".

Seems the memory is out of stock.

Question for those who have successfully added 8 GB module to the stock 4 GB of RAM (and Xeon 1265Lv2 CPU):

Could you please share part numbers or the sticks you have successfully used?

Almost half of the links in the sticky post seems to be broken :(

Unfortunately and this one says "not found" for me.

I found accross the threads that people successfully replaced stock memory with 2x KTH-PL316E/8G sticks.

From what I understand, this particular memory is not capable to run on "low voltage" (1.35 Volts).

Any clues what memory the stock Microserver comes with? Is it low-voltage version or not?

Is it real to expect KTH-PL316E/8G (one stick) work with the stock 4 GB stick together?

Thanks for your ideas

KTH-PL316E/8G does work, had 2 of them in my unit, part number confirmed, have the sticks in front of me as I type...
