TRS
Hi, I'am trying to do a cool setup for my home. My server is a HP Microserver Gen8 Xeon E3-1265LV2 and 16GB ram 256 GB SSD and 2X 5TB WD red nas. Today I have Esxi installed with the following Vm's Clearos running as GW / Firewall Win 7 for Other stuff. I am looking for a fileserver/Nas APP. And FreeNas was close to install. but it needs so much memory, and also there is some problem running it in VM. Anyone with idea's :-) Best Regards TRS
JackoUK
1. Use one of the 5TB disks as your principal storage ... and synchronise a copy to the 2nd 5TB drive. This suffers from the problem that a mistaken deletion will be replicated in the synced copy. (Yes ... I did once delete a folder in error ... and lost the lot!) 2. Use the 2 disks similarly but via Windows 7's File History facility. Now you are protected from an accidental deletion. Getting your data back after an error is ... clumsy by all accounts (should've upgraded to Windows 10?). 3. Subscribe to Backblaze Personal Backup cloud storage. https://www.backblaze.com/ Now all 10TB of your data is synced to the cloud ... and no extra cost when you add a 3rd and 4th disk. TRS
Hi, Thanks for your reply. I was more or less looking for an alternative to Freenas because ram consumption. But I think I will give it a try.
