Synology Router - Installing & Using IPS

Recommended Posts

itGeeks

I came across I post on the Synology forums pertaining to installing and using IPS and I thought its good info for anyone using IPS on any router, It talks about tuning the IPS rule-set to fit your environment. In most cases its best to take the time to do this, We don't need to be scanning for threats for services/OS's/Applications we don't use on our networks, That's just a wast of IPS resources. Have a look at the link below and look for the post by 'Cola007 posted on Thu Sep 08-2016'.

Interesting thread. Thanks for sharing. Was unable to determine whether users had acceptable performance from an SD card though.

The consensus is to use an SSD drive on the USB3 interface and disable the check mark to reduce the USB3 down to USB2 speeds though I have not tested this yet. From that post peaple are using the Samsung 240 Evo 256GB for best performance. I did notice in the spec that the USB3 port is limited to 107 MB/s for Ext4 and 103MB/s for FAT32 so I am thinking a good fast class 10 SD card my do the trick, Testing is needed. I am going to try a SanDisk Ultra Fit and see how that does Before investing in a SSD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BGTG2A0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2JGVG2WGW14PY&coliid=IPIUP7Y0GBE11&psc=1
