HPE Proliant ML10 Gen9 Display Output Dongle Question

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I hate to ask a very dumb sounding question but I'm a little bit confused on this.  According to the HPE communication http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=1008686780&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c05226637, the ML10 Gen9 needs a dongle to output video from its DisplayPort.  But if I have a monitor with a DisplayPort, do I still need the adapter dongle?  Is there a reason I need to convert it DVI or VGA?  Is there a limitation with DisplayPort where it doesn't output video until it loads up an OS or something?

Thanks in advance!

Highly unlikely. The link you provided mentions adapters for VGA, DVI and HDMI, not DP. VGA is analogue and so is DVI-A so this is where the 'active' part comes from I guess.
