Smartthings V2 customisation/options

Recommended Posts

I am considering purchasing Smartthings V2 and I wondering it it's possible to use it without Ethernet cable since I have portable mobile router without any Ethernet port.

Does Smartthings get along with Lifx 1000 light bulbs I do have 3 build and setup my customisation, I really do like the app and I am hoping Smartthings would deliver the same software customisation experience.

It is compatible with your Lifx bulbs but you are going to have to connect the hub to your network via Ethernet. You don't have to get a new router, just an inexpensive gigabit Ethernet switch and you will be set for future updates as well.

Five port switch - http://amzn.to/1NqRRkf  (as of this posting this switch is only $6.99)

Look up your bulbs here - https://www.smartthings.com/compatible-products

V2 Hub - https://support.smartthings.com/hc/en-us/articles/205956900-Meet-the-Samsung-SmartThings-Hub

But why would I be using a switch if my mobile router does not have an Ethernet port?

If I plugged the hub to the switch's Ethernet then how will the switch communicate with the router?

Are you saying there is a workaround this issue with just a switch?

I was assuming your mobile router had a WAN and a LAN. Now that I think of it, "mobile router" was the key word.  So no, in your case it will not work unless your router has at least one LAN port.  The ST hub needs an Ethernet connection to your network.  You could buy a WiFI bridge that will connect to your WIFI and bridge that to Ethernet but at that point you could have just purchased a new router.  Ya need a new router.
