Oh, OK, when I did the Image backup I did it thru Windows -- thus no freeing up of drive space -- you did the recover drive option in the Toshiba tools?

OTG cables are difficult to find locally & will have to mail order -- I wonder if I could do it through a USB Hub?

Did you have to use a local acct over a ms acct or was that personal preference?

Just did the recover drive option when done had 6gb free though went local account over ms account this time.

Can you get the recovery USB drive to boot?

I've tried two USB drives so far and while everything is copied over when I try to boot from them nothing happens.

I found a site that came up with a nice alternative for a OTG cable that works on the 8 inch Toshiba's so bought it to try on the 7

I bought a StarTech USB2HAUBY3 3 ft USB Y Cable for External Hard Drive and 2 x StarTech GCUSBAAFF USB Gender Changer because 2 where cheaper than 1 lol.  the y cable is used on external hard drives and with a gender changer can power connect a hub for keyboard mouse etc hopefully even a NIC adapter

I have a local because I'm testing this at work as well plus testing the WorkPlace Join feature at work and home for Single Signon for apps though have tried both ways and like the option now of using a PIN as both my MS account and Domain Account passphrases are 15+ characters long

Nice find -- probably should have those in the Misc Box for whatever  -- I got 2 of the OTG cables just because Amazon marketed them that way from Cable Matters http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GM0OZ4O/ref=pe_385040_121528360_TE_dp_1

the method I've employed was outlined in http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-usb-recovery-drive which is the same method Surface folks use http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/storage-files-and-folders/create-a-recovery-drive?lc=1033 -- though at the end it doesn't give me an option to delete the recovery partition on the Mini -- so it's looking like I would need to go into Disk Management to do that manually.........

The StarTech and Gender Changer should do the trick if there's a way to get into BIOS during Post and change the boot order to hit the USB first -- have you figured that out?

You can get into bios by holding power and vol up for about 5 seconds.  I don't know if there is a boot option there but you can do a recovery option boot via windows and it will bring up a boot menu.  If you have a USB stick plugged in on boot you will see that option.  So, Settings, Change PC Settings, Update and Recovery, Recovery, Advanced Startup, Restart Now.

And....just tried it and it won't recognice my Sandisk Cruzer USB sticks.  The Toshiba recovery stick and the Windows 10 Stick I just made. I thought I read somewhere that these Cruzers were not a good choice as a boot stick.  I dunno the answer here.

Wow, Thanks Dave!!

BTW, my grandson is LOVING this thing -- I've just changed it to auto boot into his account..............
