Yes, I've confirmed that the Sony Active Pen and the Acer Aspire R7-572 Active Stylus both work on the Surface Pro 3.

Do you find other pens better to write/draw with than the original Surface Pro 3 pen? Which would you say was the best?

No pen button remapping is not supported yet. We're all waiting for Microsoft to release a pen control panel that has been promised since the SP3 was released.

The HTC scribe pen also works and some people over at the tabletpcreview forums confirmed that it gives a better experience than the SP3 stock pen. Haven't tried it though.

Wow! that costs way more than the MS SP3 pen. What's the point then?

The Sony pen from my experience provides a much nicer feel than my SP3 pen that I bought to use on my Vaio Duo 13, plus the stylus tip is significantly more durable than the one in the SP3. My SP3 pen tip had bits breaking off within an hour of use and Microsoft won't give me any replacements since I don't own an SP3, just the pen.

It looked like this after only a day of use:

The Sony tip shows no signs of wear after several days of use since I got it.  You can also screw the SP3 cap with the bluetooth button onto the Sony pen and it fits perfectly other than the color doesn't match, but it looks fine to me.

As of today there are several Sony pens on ebay under $45. I bought an extra one as a backup which should give me a few years of use vs a few months for the tip on the SP3.
