not so much a spec more that its supported by the proc so well see what happens

Sounds more & more like a typical MS scenario. Bring something out; it doesn't do all that well. Revise & improve it, re-release; it does better but still not so hot. Revise & improve again; this time it takes off, and takes over.

 

If not the 3rd time, then the 4th.

Not sure I would agree completely with that. Apple tends to have a quicker cycle to success. Some other companies do better as well, mostly small first-time companies of course. MS tends to take longer to find their stride but the key is that they typically do find it.
