Hi everyone,

I'm new here obviously, started reading the forum since I received my Gen8 Proliant yesterday, and already filled up with 4 HDD and 1 SSD on SATA port powered by the FDD cable  (With FDD to SATA power cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Computers-Accessories/InLine-29660A-Floppy-SATA-Power-Adaptor-60mm/B002JFAHNO )

Now I can read everywhere to use the SAS port to add 4 or 8 more disks (I'm not talking about this guy haha : http://homeservershow.com/forums/index.php?/topic/10329-update-on-my-gen-8/ )

But how could you guys bring your 4 or 8 disks the power, since the provided power supply have no more connexions ?

Thanks for your heeeelp !!

I think people use a dedicated RAID card for the additional disks. Additionally, larger PSUs can be installed with minor modification but these aren't my areas of expertise!

you need a molex to 3 x molex

then a molex to 3 x sata

then a floppy to 1 or 2 x sata

if you want to add lots of internal drives

i advise you use pull ties to keep them secure

Thanks Shonk !

I just did not see the molex to x4 SATA on the PSU... Shame on me !

Now I have have to find either a Pcie card to SAS, or a x8 SAS to SATA cable ! I didn't find the last one, in France at least ^^

Thanks for help !!

Wow thanks again for these links !

I just found this one : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00SRJJ1W4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A23M9R8PGJ0XBE (I always forget to consider ebay...), but this one seems to be nice too ! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-OEM-LSI-MegaRAID-SAS2308-8I-9217-8I-8-Port-External-6Gb-s-SAS-SATA-RAID-Card-/132059443499?hash=item1ebf5b312b:g:qf8AAOSwEzxYc6R-

Hmm and why would you change the bracket, I assume the one on the cards is not low profile ?

Hi Shonk,

I finally received my PCIe card to SAS. Just plugged in and boot to see what happened. I just got a red screen with some words I can't read for now (mos of words are half out of the screen ^^) is it my OS or the server which is displaying this error ?

I'll take a look into the bios to see if there is something to set up before !!
