DJI is selling the Phantom 3 series at a great discount.

Phantom 3 Standard - $399 - http://fave.co/2hycKMf

Phantom 3 Professional - $799 - http://fave.co/2hAbFDw

It's not the Phantom 4 or the Mavic Pro but it's a capable Drone and still has all the features.  I would like to have the 3 Pro but think I'm going to ask Santa for the Standard.  That price is easier on the Old Fat Man's wallet.

Free shipping too!

This version, does it do auto hover? What features are not in this version verses pro? Verses the 4 Orr Maverick? I tried a quad copter and it is really, really hard to fly. I know these are more advanced.

Ok. Santa just used his Visa on a Standard!  I hope I can fly this dang thing!  I would love to have the one with more bells and whistles but this is a safe starting point.

These have auto hover, GPS, auto take off and landing, follow me mode, etc.  About the only thing it doesn't have is the Russian GPS tracking which allows it to pinpoint the landing better.  It doesn't have the range that the others have as well.  The phantom 4 also has collision avoidance.

It also has point of interest shooting.  So, tag an interest point like your house and it will hover around it shooting video.  You can also follow someone with it automatically.  I'm thinking of tracking the kids on their bikes!

Again, starter kit!  If I like the 3 and get good at it I'm sure I'll be moving up.

I've been reading this site in prep.

This is the one I have DBPOWER UDI U842 Predator WiFi FPV Drone with HD Camera 2.4G 4CH 6 Axis Gyro RTF Low Voltage Alarm, Gravity Induction and Headless Mode Includes Bonus Battery https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D9XWFGG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0YQuyb196A2TV

No altitude hold. You have to really work the throttle to keep it in one place and I struggle with just hovering in one place.

No altitude hold is tough.  My little toy drone doesn't have it either. It wanders all over the place.  I chop up furniture and sliced up my leg with it once!  I'm psyched about my new Phantom 3.  It doesn't have the range that the others do but again, I think it's a safe start for me.  If I end up using it a lot I'll look at either modding the controller with antennas http://amzn.to/2hK034a or moving up to another one.
