The only way to perfrom a "decent" I/O is working with the 5.5.0-88OEM driver. This is sadness

btw in the vmware 6.5+ you need disable the driver vmw_ahci or the datastores won't recognize

esxcli system module set –enabled=false –module=vmw_ahci

Btw, I have been reading around and many users claimed not having issues if you upgrade to the latest SPP.

Dear All,

I'm a new forum member.

At home I encountered a problem during the installation of ESXi version 6.5 U1 on an older SSD (took it from a Macbook air 2010). TheSSD doesn't support Native Command Queuing (NCQ). It is an extension of the Serial ATA protocol allowing hard disk drives to internally optimize the order in which received read and write commands are executed.

The use of NCQ is a new "feature" of ESXi.

Could your performance problem be related ? Do your harddisks/SSDs support NCQ ?

Kind regards,

Mario.

hmm looks like the win server 2016 with hyper-v is the best choose for us with the gen8 then I guess?
I'm running two gen8's with win 2016 and I have no issue, everything works as intended.

My current findings:

I've just created a custom esxi install updated from the last pre gen 9 esxi 6.5u2 offline bundle zip from here:

    https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=OEM-ESXI65U2-HPE&productId=614

(make sure to select the pre gen 9 download, both pre gen 9 bundles and post gen 9 bundles are on this same page)

Into an iso with:

    https://www.v-front.de/p/esxi-customizer-ps.html
(requires the powercli module installed & minimal powershell knowledge)

using this command:

.\ESXi-Customizer-PS-v2.6.0.ps1 -izip .\VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-Update2-9298722-HPE-preGen9-650.U2.9.6.8.3-Sep2018-depot.zip -v65 -update

(one line)

fed it into one of my gen8's through ilo, fired up a vm and got these results from a speed test in the vm with its osd vmdk on an evo 850:

      Hi everyone.

      New to this forum.
I have a gen8 microserver running at home, where I have installed an SSD in the ODD sata slot. On the SSD I have installed Ubuntu Server 18.04.
I have then created a logical volume witht the raid controller and can then boot to the SSD. So far so good.
My problem emerges when I reboot the system. The logical volume disapears and it gives the error: "boot logical drive is configured but is missing or offline".
I then have to go into the utility and reconfigure the logical volume. Kind of annoying, when trying to run a headless setup.

      Greetings,

I'm new to the HPMSG8 world and so far I'm loving it. I have a stock Xeon with 16G of aftermarket memory with iLO patched to 2.70. Next up is adding a RAID card, so I can put my boot SSD on the onboard RAID. I picked up a LSI SAS9211-8i on Amazon, but am struggling to flash it to IT mode on the MicroServer. Is this even possible? Unfortunately, the only other system I have with PCI slots is 32-bit.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
