My main desktop computer's USB 3.0 speeds are fine but when I copy things over to my hard drive on my server, the speeds drop to sometimes 5mbps. It's atrocious! Is this a driver issue? Getting very frustrated here.

I have tried several USB 3.0 devices. I have used Corsair, Kingston, and Sandisk as well as a 3.0 HDD Toaster on my main PC with no hiccups 100+mbps. Switch to server, dips to 15mbps as I stated.

Are your devices write speeds upto the job alot of usb sticks have far slower write speeds compared to read speeds

If you post the model and size i will tell you the max write speed of the devices

you may well be writing to a device with 120 megabytes read and 20 megabytes write

Over smb you will get an initial burst at wire speed for around 2 gigabytes undil the recieve buffer is full on the server

then it will drop to the speed of the device being written to

Is there software or software/hardware that can test all USB ports (including 3.1)?

I only know of MUTT which I don't think works for 3.1
