abpostelnicu
Hello, I've just bought a HP P212 raid controller and put it in my MS Gen8. I think it has a very old firmware - 3.0 mart Array P212 in Slot 1 Bus Interface: PCI Slot: 1 Serial Number: PACCPID103200H8 Cache Serial Number: PACCQ9SYXM71 RAID 6 (ADG) Status: Disabled Controller Status: OK Hardware Revision: C Firmware Version: 3.00 Wait for Cache Room: Disabled Surface Analysis Inconsistency Notification: Disabled Post Prompt Timeout: 0 secs Cache Board Present: True Cache Status: Not Configured Drive Write Cache: Disabled Total Cache Size: 256 MB Total Cache Memory Available: 144 MB No-Battery Write Cache: Disabled Battery/Capacitor Count: 0 SATA NCQ Supported: True My question is how i can upgrade the firmware and from where can i get the latest one. I'm running on an Debian OS that boots up from ODD bay with software RAID 5 - 4 disks
abpostelnicu
I'll respond myself to this question, a complete guide with the latest firmware can be found here: http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_55b304486f544f148de6c5cc6e#tab1
schoondoggy
You can also update it using the latest SPP.
mrpenguin
If I read that correctly-- the Drive Write Cache does not work with a P212 and the gen8 (and, therefore, hardware raid 5 is not supported--hence why you are using software raid 5?) Is that right? (I had a similar question on the P212 and gen8 recently--not meaning to thread hijack) Hello, I've just bought a HP P212 raid controller and put it in my MS Gen8. mrpenguin
It was mostly a guess from what you had written; I don't know very much about servers, hardware, or maintenance-- So it is really just a logical assumption on my part. As they say, a little knowledge is dangerous :-P This was from your status post: (which made me assume the DWC doesn't function) Cache Board Present: True Cache Status: Not Configured Drive Write Cache: Disabled Total Cache Size: 256 MB Total Cache Memory Available: 144 MB No-Battery Write Cache: Disabled I don't know very much about servers, hardware, or maintenance-- So it is really just a logical assumption on my part. mrpenguin
Gotcha! on the other thread, (which you probably have already seen), Schoondoggy has CONFIRMED that hardware raid 5 will work with the cache module. I will now be looking to order one of those and see!
