Ubuntu 14 end of life > Upgrade to Ubuntu 16

Ubuntu 14 LTS went end of support on the 4th August 2016.

Has anyone run the prompted update script on their HP Microserver Gen 8?

I originally (at the time of hardware purchase last year) installed Ubuntu 15 because I'd heard about some issue getting it working with the Gen 8 hardware.

I have Ubuntu 16 running on a webserver, I'd rather not kill my media server doing this upgrade unless I'm confident others have already trodden the upgrade path.

I have not tried the prompted route, but there have been a few posts around video resolution and video performance issues with Ubuntu 14-15-16 on MS Gen8. HP does support newer versions of Ubuntu on other Proliant servers that use the same video chip, Matrox G200, but perhaps there a BIOS issue?

14.04 is supported until 03/19. It's only the kernel and bits that needs updating, as at the bottom of the message says, you can keep 14.04.

Although I've been testing with 16.04 and ZFS, along with LXD as an alternative to FreeNAS and it's going quite well.

Thanks for the reply.

I've successfully run this command and am sticking with 14.x for the time being.

sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-xenial linux-image-generic-lts-xenial
