p420 JBOD can't create datastore in ESXi 6.0.1

Hi experts, I'm totally stumped here... I have a p420 RAID card set in JBOD configuration for 4x 2TB drives. ESXi can see each hard drive individually, but errors out on the final step of datastore creation with this message:

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateVmfsDatastore" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "192.168.1.6" failed.
Operation failed, diagnostics report:  Unable to create Filesystem, please see VMkernel log for more details: ATS on device /dev/disks/naa.50004cf2114aa891:1: not supported

.I am completely stumped as to what else I can do! I plan to run the 4 drives in a DrivePool under a Windows Server 2012 VM anyway, should I just attempt an RDM?
