Question on Open Mesh setup

Recommended Posts

I recently took the plunge into having an Open Mesh based Wifi setup.  I have a question for you other guys who have it setup.  In the Configure / Advanced menu, there is an option that says "Bridge Wired Clients".  The info button next to it says "When a wired client is connected to an access point, it will use settings from this SSIS".   I don't get the point of this button.  How would a wired client be connected to an access point?  Thank you for any help!!

Some of the OM products have two Ethernet ports so you could for example hookup a device or switch to the 2nd port on OM. Or if your doing wireless mesh with one of the units that has a single port you could use it to connect a wired device/switch.

ItGeeks, is there an app that you can recommend to test the signal strength of my AP at different distances? I have it in my basement at the moment but I want to try it upstairs next. I figured I should test some items at both locations to see if moving it would make a huge difference.

What kind of device do you have that you would be using for testing? Below is a list of programs I use on Android, Most of there can be found for iOS also, Just make sure you check the developer when searching because there are a ton with the same name.

To check internet speed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest

To check the signal and for the best channel number https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest

To check the connection speed to the AP https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.assia.sweetspots

Here is another WiFi speed test app, This one is used to check the speed between your device. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pzolee.android.localwifispeedtester

I was mainly looking to test the signal strength. After reading your reply though, I now will test those items you mentioned too!

I thought I would to use my laptop. My other options are iOS devices. Thanks for the info.

For windows 10 one of the programs I use is WiFi Analyzer from the Windows store https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/wifi-analyzer/9nblggh33n0n
