oscar17 1
Can someone who has used both Luma and eero provide an active feature comparison of the two products? Let us date the comparison as valid for July 2016, so topic is allowed to go stale after July. Thank you for your help.

oscar17 1
I don't work for eero or Luma. I am not even a network specialist. I am just your basic consumer who stumbled onto this forum by seeing the Luma first experience thread. I find it hard to quickly compare the features of the two products. This would also be a simple way to check which basic features are broken or missing. I have seen information stating eero using 1GHz dual core processor. Then I just saw a post mention Luma using 667MHz quad core processors. Assuming not all 4 cores are fully utilized, then the processing power of both products is similar. 2x 1GHz = roughly 2GHz =~ 4x 667MHz = 2.667GHz I doubt they both have enough power to perform deep packet inspection, unless each puck handles its share of devices and traffic DPI. The gateway puck would have to pick up DPI duties for the extra ethernet based traffic feed by switch to its LAN port. This is all speculation. In another thread I asked about the Luma internals in trying to figure out its signal radiation pattern. eero radiates horizontally relative to placing the puck flat which makes sense based on the internal pictures placement of antennas and shield as reflectors. I debate which of the two would work better for my mount locations: walls, ceilings (inverted), corners or just tables/shelves. I would expect both to have similar basic wifi router features. Disclaimer: I don't have either product yet. I am waiting on my Amazon Luma pre-order to ship. Edited July 16, 2016 by oscar17
oscar17 1
I wish Luma had a firmware engineer speak up in a reddit Luma forum like eero has. I think that eero firmware engineer is providing feedback in the forum to help people troubleshoot simple setup issues. I learn a little about their mesh implementation from what he says. JROrtiz 36
I plan to put together such a table once I get my hands on Luma, but that won't be until mid-August.
itGeeks 187
I plan to put together such a table once I get my hands on Luma, but that won't be until mid-August. I look forward to it, I have plenty of hands on with Luma but none with Eero. I wish Luma had a firmware engineer speak up in a reddit Luma forum like eero has. I think that eero firmware engineer is providing feedback in the forum to help people troubleshoot simple setup issues. I learn a little about their mesh implementation from what he says. That would be helpful however I don't think they will open any forum till the negative chatter settles down.

Do you have it in router mode or bridge mode? I am interested in knowing if Eero has a real firewall built-in unlike Luma Edited July 16, 2016 by itGeeks
