Does anyone have any ideas why my internal USB is not showing in the list of drives to install WS2008R2 to? It shows in both ESXI and WS2003. Do I have to load special drivers to get it seen by the OS installer?

Why?

I also posted instructions on how to manually "install" it to a USB drive. If you need a more direct link, here you go:

Another option is to use the Windows To Go instructions, as that may work too.

But in general, it's a bad idea to run any OS from USB (flash drive or hard drive), because they're unstable at best. Linux only handles this decently because it's loading a RAM disk off of the drive.

if it's not doing that, then you risk data loss or corruption, because USB drives periodically disconnect from the system. This is also why it's highly recommended to not use USB for long term storage.
