server/connect gives error 500

I've run WSUS on both WHS 2011 and Essentials with no problems whatsoever.  Frankly, for a small amount of machines, it's more problems than it's worth.  WSUS runs on a nonstandard port so how you got it to interfere with either Ports 80 or 443 is somewhat if an issue,

WSUS alters and reconfigures any site running on port 80 and/or 443.  It makes changes to redirect clients to the proper ports for it's website, IIRC.  

 

So, this may be "normal".  Unfortunately.

Got the same issue after uninstalling an unruly WSUS installation on WS2012R2E. Your fixed worked for me - thanks. How did you come up with it?

fwiw I just upgraded my wife's computer to windows 10 and I did not have to turn off ipv6 etc. to get the client connect to work
