Thermal Paste Recommendation

What thermal material do you recommend (if required for a i3-3240) ?

I tend to use inexpensive thermal paste and I make sure to put on a very thin layer. I put a small dot of paste on the heat spreader of the chip. Then I spread thermal paste over the heat spreader evenly with my finger wrapped in plastic wrap. I find people tend to put on too much paste and the oils and sweat on our fingers are not good to mix with the paste.

I know there are many techniques for applying thermal paste, but this has worked for me.

I really dont recomend Arctic Silver

I used it for years, then on my last but one laptop i changed the cpu and used Arctic Silver as usual

every few months the paste would dry out and temps would go up 20-30 degrees at full load taking the temps

to tjmax on a prime

this happened around 3 times changed to Arctic Cooling MX-4 never had to touch it again

So, thermic paste is mandatory but point of view about Arctic paste are different

Speaking from my personal experience: I've had very good performance with Artic Silver 5 http://homeservershow.com/?s=arctic+silver

Check some of the links on application methods in the above referenced articles
