Homer-S
Hello, on my Hyper-V Host are running some VMs. If I want to load a file from the host to VM it always take the detour to my router. This is quite slow. Is there a chance to avoid this to get faster speed? Thanks
jmwills
Define "load a file".
Homer-S
Copy a file ...
Drashna Jaelre
Copy a file ... SO you mean copy a file over the network, from the host to the guest? Then it depends on how the network is configured, and yes, most likely, this is going to be routed through the router.
Homer-S
Sorry for my bad description. I was not clear enough but you hit the point. Can it be "routed" directly?
jmwills
No. Everything will go through the router since one of the clients is a VM.
Drashna Jaelre
I wouldn't say "no", but it heavily depends on your system configuration. And at best, configuring the network adapters in such a way to do this ... well, normally, that configuration is not recommended for security *and* performance issues. And that's by sharing the adapter with the host.
jmwills
Well, true. If the VM host had three NICs you could run a crossover cable. But just copy the file over the LAN. Make sure you are using a dedicated switch for you local network and not the switch on the router. Generally speaking, router switches are not that good. Homer-S
Thanks for your help. My bottleneck on the "way to switch/router" is the power lan. I have no chance to wire the server room ... OK, be patient and life with it .
schoondoggy
A virtual switch could be used for VM to VM traffic, not sure about host to VM. I need to spend more time working on Hyper V.
