Popular Post raminger
Recently I added a P420 to my GEN8. But this also increased the case fan speed, even when it was idle. The P420 looks like it has been designed to add a fan on top of the heatsink. With a cheap fan on the heatsink I was able to reduce the temperature to 60°C while under load. For anyone interested, the .stl can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1284618 And some pics can be found here: http://imgur.com/a/MPAEL PS: Thanks to everyone providing your knowledge in this forum, you saved me a lot of time figuring out some stuff with my GEN8! 2

zxdavb
Recently I added a P420 to my GEN8. Hi chap. I wanted to know: does the P420 show up in the ILO like the P222 does? Thanks in advance.

zxdavb
P421 is so P420 should. Thanks for that. I bought a P222, expecting to run 6-8 disks inside the case, but the P222 has 1x internal (SFF-8087) and 1x external (SFF-8088) connector. It seems I should have bought a P420 instead as it has 2x internal connectors (I understand the P421 has two external). Does anyone know of any other differences between them, before I start shopping for a P420? The QuickSpecs says the P4xx are 'Enterprise Class', whilst the P222 is 'Entry-Level' (whatever that means). Will you be using the RAID functions of the controller or are you just looking for 8 internal ports?
raminger
Hello, Are you able to post the case fan speed before and after the addition of this fan on the P420 card? Thanks. Without fan on the P420 the case fan was running at 60-70%, now it's stable on 11%. Hi chap. I wanted to know: does the P420 show up in the ILO like the P222 does? Thanks in advance. Working as expected, it shows up in all relevant tabs in iLO and I also get all infos from my WD Reds.
zxdavb
The plan is: RAID1 for 2x SSDs (on a SDM) RAID5 for 4x magnetics

With P421 running under ESXi 6, I'm around 16%
