2 in-line AVs in tandem

Folks, long time not here, hope you all are doing well!

The most beneficial take away from this forum is the Untangle box that I run in transparent bridge mode behind the WAN-facing router. I just run the free plug-ins which includes an in-line AV (and other filters) Works great, thanks!

Another box came free, and I was thinking of running it as a Sophos box in full transparent mode http://fastvue.co/sophos/blog/easily-evaluate-sophos-utm-9-3-using-full-transparent-mode/ and gain another in-line AV for free (and other filters).

In other words, I like to deploy the UT and Sophos boxes in tandem, I am hoping for 2 in-line AVs for free (and other filters).

Anyone has done that?

Will it work or will it cause trouble?

You can probably do it, but I've had some issues with the A/V in Sophos. The problem is that on any of my streamers and some of my portable devices, it blocks Netflix. So you can leave A/V on for your computers, but I have had to set DHCP reservations for my streamers and portables and then disable A/V for those devices. I'm not afraid to do this since the likelihood of a NVidia Shield or Roku getting malware is almost zero.

Thanks for the comments, but I have just discovered that Sophos no longer offers the free UTM home version that has the free in-line AV blocker :(

Anyone knows about some software to make a box with 2 NICs an in-line AV blocker? Free or low fee   (Sophos is expensive)

You sure about that? AFAIK, the latest home/SOHO edition of the Sophos gateway package is the fully unlocked product. You're just restricted regarding CPU cores and total memory. The limits are quite generous so will be plenty for anything up to a small to mid sized office depending on usage.

Where are those CPU & Memory restrictions outlined?
