N54L Raid 10 Sector Size

Hi Guys,

I have a N54L and have successfully installed server 2012 r2.

I have installed the OS on a 120GB SSD and have 4 x 2TB WD Reds in a raid 10.

I found that I could not backup Windows 7 machines to the server and after some quick learning found through fsutil that the Bytes per sector are 1024 ie double the 512 of the individual drives.

Mirroring the drives or having them individually gives the correct 512 but raid 10 gives 1024 (due to striping?) which Windows 7 machines don't like anything but 512.

So is there a way to keep the raid 10 and force 512 bytes per sector? I prefer not to use Windows software raid. Otherwise I may have to have two mirror raids of 2 TB each.

Through some research I found that there is a WD disk utility that people use to force an emulated 512 sector size but I wonder if performance would take a hit?

If anyone could offer some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
