Hi all,

I have a new Gen8 that will be going as follows (OK I went a little nuts):

£180 1x HP Gen 8  (150W PSU) (819185-421) (less £55 rebate?)

£210 1x Xeon E3-1265L v2

 £92 2x Crucial DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600), 240 Pins, ECC, Unbuffered (CT102472BD160B)

$15 1x iLO advanced license (working)

 £66 2x Western Digital Red 1TB (2.5") (WD10JFCX)

And I've got a couple of SSDs floating around the traps.

Anyway, I think I'm going to have to but a P22, but they're at least £230.

Is it work it?  I'mm be running Windows 10, with VirtualBox on top...

Depends whatou you use your server for and what disposable cash you have, I put a P222 in mine yet all it has realistically alloed me to do is put a few more drives in there so I suspect any cheaper card would do the job..

It for a) Virtual machines: a small Apache webserver (Guacamole), and a Windows 7 desktop running Office, and; B) storage for Photos / Music (currently 200 GB) with maybe a FreeNAS VM.

The Gen8 is so over-powered for me that I plan for it to last me for a good few years, and any investment would pay over that time.  I'm starting with some 1TB HDDs, and plan to swap them over to 2-4TB as prices fall...

I really like the idea of hot-pluggable RAID, especially with tight integration with ILO, etc.  The question is: is the HPE Smart Array P222/512 with FBWC (631667-B21) all I need, or is there other costs as well (cables,etc.).

I'd like the 3y carepack too, but I think putting in the Xeon might blow that option?
