ChromeCast Audio - now whole home audio

This article slipped by me for a day or so. It's pretty exciting that this inexpensive dongle can now be Sonos

for a much cheaper price. I understand there will be compromises, but at that price it's still worth a try.

Is anyone going to try this and if so are there any particular speakers you would recommend for such a setup.

It would be great to find a speaker like the Echo to work with it.

ChromeCast Audio supports 3.5mm stereo, 3.5mm to RCA and Toslink optical connections. You could run it to the audio input on a receiver or to a pair of powered speakers or a stereo single speaker. Not sure about volume control as that would tend to be a manual function on the speaker or receiver. Interesting idea, but I think I will keep my Sonos system.

If I had a Sonos I would keep it too. I am looking at this as another just because I can project.

It looks like Gramofon does the same thing while also distributing your wireless signal.

I actually won the Pi at the last meetup with the Logitech Media Server installed by Rekloose. I'm thinking about

buying the OEM screen to go with it and mess with it a little bit when I have a chance. For simplicity sakes I thought

Chromecast audio would work well with my Android phone. Oh, and just to tinker which is obviously an expensive habit.

I have been waiting for this feature.  I have Sonos but wanted to try this for the outdoors and the garage.  I have two of Chromecast audio and will give it a shot when I get a bit of time.  Thanks for the heads up.
