The Windows Home Server Team blog has just announced an online evaluation of Windows Home Server 2011 in lieu of a trial download. The “try before you buy” experience is at a temporary launch site here: http://online.holsystems.com/portals/sbs/whs/
It’s not the flashiest of websites I’ve ever seen but they did note it’s temporary. Some of the experiences you will be able to test are:
- Adding a user
- Using the client Launchpad
- Managing PCs to ensure its health and security
- Protecting the server and PC’s data
- Adding server storage capacity
- Using Remote Web Access
Make sure you use Internet Explorer as I first tried it with Firefox and came up empty.
The link will open a security warning seen above.
Yet another warning may pop up but once your past this the session will start.
An evaluation guide will also pop up with the remote session. Don’t close it! You will need the password contained within in order to login to the server.
You will have access to a client as well as the server. It was a bit confusing at first since Belinda’s PC is what popped up on my screen first.
Clicking Windows Home Server 2011 on the right brings up the server screen.
What do you think? Yeah, me too. I want the trial download! It is nice to be able to click around and not just see a bunch of static screens though.
