This week on BYOB we are joined by our special guest Rich O’Niel. You know him as DVN on the HSS forums. We discuss the new REVOx2 PCIe SSD and Michael gives his initial impressions on the Microsoft Kinect. BYOB talks with Rich about how he got started with Homeservershow, his builds, and recently his experiences with raid on two SSD's as well as two 2T drives. Remember to join us live on ustream on November 27 at 11am PST.

Intel Storage Matrix
Download and burn Parted Magic .iso
Boot Parted Magic | Hit the ‘Start’ button | run System Tools -> Erase Disk
Choose the 4th option for SE
Select the disk and accept ‘NULL’ as the default password to lock the drive
Once the command is issued, it takes ~3-10 seconds to do the erase
*Warning: Limit SE’s to a couple times per year. This is fine. Excessive SE's may shorten SSD life.
Rich’s MiniITX HTPC Box
Heeding advice from Michael Martis (no-control), extra PSU cabling is cut away with diagonal wire cutters. Though the build features a modular PSU, this makes a nice difference in further reducing clutter.
Heat Shrink tubing on the fan and front panel header wiring also keeps things neat and organized.
Scythe 120mm case fan mod: Using a drill press with an adjustable hole saw, cut a 113.5mm hole in the front of the case. A Scythe 120mm @ 800 rpm case fan, controlled by a 3-fan, 3-speed Lian Li slot fan controller, fits with a little bit of room to spare. A Thermaltake HSF lowers temps ~5-8C over the stock Intel HSF. The OCZ Agility 2 SSD provides fast load times while adding zero heat and noise.
Almost finished – sliding in the PSU: Wiring is routed to reduce air-flow obstruction to extent possible. Note the black, flat cabling of the Cooler Master PSU wrapped around the main power cable.
Assembled and ready for the side panel: There’s an approximate 1.5”-1.75” gap between the Thermaltake HSF and the back of the Cooler Master PSU. Buttoned up and powered on, this HTPC build is nearly silent.
