You mentioned, “I found another DVD Burner/Reader that could be paired with HP’s MediaSmart Server.” Does this mean that there are only certain dvd burners that will work directly with HP MediaSmart Server? How does it work to add one of these drives? Do you need to remote desktop into the WHS OS and install drivers? Any info on how this works would be fantastic. Thank you. Graham
Ok…well I went out to BestBuy and picked up this Pioneer DVD/CD drive: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8692514&type=product&id=1198286609341
I plugged it into the back of HP MediaSmart Server and hoped it would work. Well, it worked like a charm. No drivers, no muss, no fuss. Drive seems pretty solid as well and couldn’t be simpler.
My goal is to rip my dvd and cd collection directly to the homeserver. I probably have about 50 or so movies and about 350 CDs. So far I’ve chosen MyMovies for WHS for the task and have only tested it so far. I like the cd ripping options as it lets you rip in two formats simultaneously. I have chosen FLAC and MP3, so I can use the FLAC files for streaming via Sonos (on the purchase list) and MP3 for portable music.
Anyway, thought I’d share my experience so far with other WHS enthusiasts. Thanks.
