Western Digital "Green" Drive by USB Connection Incorrectly Reported as Failed
We have identified an issue with SOME Western Digital "Green" Drive, when connected via USB, and the HP MediaSmart Server. The drives have been reported to spin down to save energy and thus reporting as a failed drive within the Windows Home Server console. The failure only occurs when using a "green" USB drive or when an internal "green" drive is placed in a USB enclosure. We recommend not using a Western Digital "green" USB drive.
Using a Western Digital "green" drive internally in an HP MediaSmart Server is supported and works just fine.
i just bought one to replace an old 500 gb drive but i'm really holding out for those new 2 tb drives!
