The New HomeServerShow.com Site
Welcome to the new site re-design. My goal for a re-design was to put more content in front of readers instead of the usual “Top-Down” blogging format. Here are some of the features of the design with explanations.
Featured Posts – The top box shows popular posts and will showcase recent reviews, top news, etc. Click on the image to view the post.
The Blog – As of now it is labeled, “Windows Home Server.” This box will have every post on homeservershow.com
Category Boxes – You should see four category boxes ranging from Reviews, Podcast, Deals, and Home Builds. These sections show the latest posts in popular categories. I like the fact that all the latest podcasts are right in front of the reader as well as all the other content the site offers.
The subscription box in the top right cleans up the old design tremendously! You can also find quick add buttons for iTunes and Zune on the top header.
This design also allows me to showcase my latest video. I will be doing more video in the coming months.
The header of the re-design is also improved from the old site. You can find common categories and pages here.
The rest of the site is fairly common among blogs. Tag cloud, links to other sites, category lists, etc.
Visually, this design allows me to present better graphics amongst the posts. It’s fairly simple now but will look better and better with future posts. I will be tweaking the design and moving things around so what you see today will probably not be the final design. There are things I like about it and a few things I hope to improve. I also have some bugs to work out with the theme and some plug-ins. Nothing is easy right? It will also be interesting to see if my podcast publishing engine approves of all this new stuff!
I am also proud to debut the new logo for the site as well as a sponsor banner. Please take the time to visit GeekGazette.net and participate in this startup site.
I’ve worked on this design for several months and have ran it by several people for input but I value your comments and suggestions on it.
