Hey guys, thanks for the mentions! Regarding your MediaVault listener, he's got two network attach devices, neither is set up for direct attach so he won't be able to utilize them together the way he wants. I basically concur with what Jim said about moving everything via the network from the MV to the MSS. Alternatively he could try partitioning his data storage strategy so each device contains some data, but to me that just sounds like more work. I suppose he could use the MV to as secondary backup of critical shares if he wanted. You can send him to the forums if he needs more help.

Regarding tech support experiences: I've been using computers since the early 80's and worked as a support technician for a couple years in the early 90's. In my opinion, tech support has become much worse over the past 10-15 years as companies need to "dumb down" the level of instruction support personnel give to callers. It's infuriating when I call tech support and am spoken to like a child, when it's clear within the first few minutes of the call that I am a knowledgeable, experienced computer user.

Having said that, I must note that the support I've received from the MediaSmart Server team at HP has been the best I've experienced in many years. They are always helpful, never speak down to me and actually seem to understand how the system works and how to fix most issues. I haven't always had good luck with HP tech support, but I am thoroughly impressed with the MediaSmart team!

John's on the right track. I don't have Firefly installed currently, but there is a database in the directory for it, and you need to delete that and then start the service. This should fix the issue and recreate the database from scratch. "songs3.db" is the file. http://wiki.wegotserved.com/index.php?title=Firef...

As for the mediaVault, it's a Linux based system. You'd need to install the file sharing protocol for linux, IIRC, or enable "smb" for it. I believe.

Though, I think HP should make a external enclosure for the MSS with MediaVault chassis. :)
