Regarding the mirroring of the system drive, you probably don’t want to do that as it can cause issues in software RAID configurations.

Yes, Zune software requires WMP11 for a couple of things. Namely Windows User Mode Driver framework and codec/runtime files from it. Which is why Zune doesn’t support WHS/Server 2003.
