I've run windows and the HP update several times from the WHS console. I've also RDP'ed into the server and ran windows update from internet explorer. I still don't have power pack 2.
Am I missing something? Can I download it manually somewhere?
Great show, always enjoy listening. It's exciting to hear about new stuff coming up with WHS. I heard Andrew talk with Ian the other day and I can't wait to see what kind of integration MS will have with Win7 & WHS. Thanks.
scottbakertemp: Go here http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php?showtopic=…
I have been having the same problem and it's being discussed on this forum. I think I'm gonna have to reinstall.

@murphyr64 – As far as I know there is no way to reinstall WHS on one the HP's. I assume it would work if I bought one of those VGA connectors. Hopefully MS will come up with a fix. This stinks.
Maybe I could set up WHS on a virtual machine and copy the installation file from that.
Great Podcast – thanks.
I'm seeing the same thing as scottbakertemp above – my WHS isn't seeing PP2 yet . . .
Has anyone found a link to download Power Pack 2?
MS allows you to download PP1 but I can't find a PP2 download link.
Mike, Did you install a pre release of power pack 1?
I beleive I installed the first release candidate. I wonder if windows update is checking for PP1 and doesn't see the release candidate as PP1.
If that's the case the PP2 installation file won't do us any good.
Another great show Dave, If anyone is a technet or msdn subscriber you can now download WHS! I'm gonna update my eval version this weekend!
scottbakertemp: Yes, my PP1 is the latest released version.
My WHS is in need of being wiped & reloaded. (It's a long story) I have MSDN so I will use WHS from there to reinstall … but I need to find room to back up all my content. I was hoping to download PP2 – and put off the reinstall until I have more time …
I would suggest installing Drashna's System Restore to your system before updating to PP2, it would give you another level of protection. You can find the wiki on wegotserved.
There have been stories about Console errors after uninstalling addins, so having System restore installed can help, just remember to create a restore point before you try anuthing funky.
As Dave & Andrew mentioned, PP2 will NOT move your recorded TV to your WHS, so using the addins, an advanced option of Recorded TV Manager ( there is a beta testing for the .wtv support for Win7) or a simpler TV Manager ( there is a beta 1.02 testing ).
Not sure if the Media Collector software from HP's EX48x will COPY and not move the Recorded TV folder from your PC.
With murphyr64's help, I realized I needed to uninstall the PP1 RC (click show updates on add / remove programs). I did so and ran windows updates. The real PP1 installed and then PP2. It now works!
I tried murphyr64’s link and it's slashdotted:
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.
My PP1 version number shows it's not RC1 . . . but I'll try the PP1 uninstall anyway . . . Thanks . ..
I also have the MSDN WHS-PP1 in a VM . . . I'll play with that a bit and see if I can locate the PP2 install file . .
Thanks for the show with all the info about PP2. Also the comment that whs is for download at MSDN is very useful.
keep up the good work and remember; your family goes first!!

I'm getting ready to do a build of WHS (right after I go through Dave's checklist of course) but I'm wondering if MS has a D/L WHS that has PP2 already slipstreamed? I wouldn't mind benefiting form the easier install process PP2 now affords us.
Good show Dave. I am not a person who uses Vista. I tried it and just gave up on it. Like alot of people on this site, I am a home builder who doesn't buy a pre-built and tested configuration where all the drivers are there/etc which didn't play well with Vista in the early years. As such, I am not a Media Center user since that product didn't embrace XP.
I use a 3rd party software for my TV recording (Snapstream) running 2 digital and 2 analog tuners. I have a home theater PC running XP that is in my living room in a very nice component-like case. I would love if there was a way to integrate the non-Media Center with Home Server.
Maybe PP2 and this episode will spark me into finding a solution to do what I'm looking for…

Nice show.
I for one am very interested in the integration between Media Server and WHS. I've been able to use my HP Media Connect and XBox360 to access files on WHS, but the interface is not as nice.
When Win7 gets released I'm tempted to get a media server with a cable-card (since I need to update a PC anyway), but I'd like to use my WHS to store the media (and really manage the extenders too). With all the Comcast changes coming, I fear that an unencryted solution will no longer.

Dave, love the show. Please give me the free book. Much appreciated.
On another note, I agree, I would like my WHS to BE my Windows Media Center. My guess is that this will eventually happen.

Hello All,
It's good to see comment participation! Thanks to everybody for leaving your thoughts and questions. Everyone who has commented will be in the drawing for Andrew's book.

Great show. I am listening to all the episodes and just completed by first WHS build so its interesting timing with PP2 coming out just as I am getting this set up. I was leaning towards a MediaSmart box but the Media Center integration now and in the future makes me think I will like the extra horsepower in my home build which is total overkill right now. Dave, you have a great podcast voice for whatever that's worth, it seems to calm me when I am stressed out…
Would love to have a shot at the book as I am a complete newbie, built my box using the OEM DVD and have no idea how all this works just yet but I have a great feeling about it.
