Podcast Downloading Add-In released as public beta

The Poca-WHS Podcatcher Add-In by Bill Rockhold has been released as a public beta.

Download here.

Wouldn’t it be nice if your Windows Home Server could download podcasts without having to install an application that is not designed as an Add-In?  I hear from readers and listeners all the time requesting a podcast downloading Add-In for Windows Home Server and thankfully Bill Rockhold has a solution for us.  In the homeservershow.com forums you can find this Add-In being discussed and tested.  Here is Bill describing the Add-In named Poca:

Poca is designed from a clean sheet for a server environment. It owes nothing to other existing desktop based podcatchers. The idea was to have a mechanism that, once configured, would download podcasts without any user interaction and store them.

Poca runs 24/7 in the background of a Windows Home Server checking RSS feeds and downloading the latest podcast available. The add-in can be configured to send an email on the completion of each download. The downloaded files can be saved into one folder or split over multiple folders. The background service is controlled by the UI portion of the add-in that runs in the WHS console.

Here are some screen shots of Poca.

Bill Rockhold, the designer, has 20 years experience in software development and 12 years doing server development with Java. This is his first add-in and application written in C#.
