I know it's a bit late for this post, but I do have a working and fully licensed copy of Avast! Windows Home Server Edition running on WHS with 5 clients (2 laptops(XP) and 3 desktops (XP and Vista). I bought one year of service.
So far so good. The client is thin and does not consume a large amount of resources. The WHS gets the actual server version and not a client version of the software.
