budget cpu\mb help

05 June 2010 - 06:40 AM

Hi all

Looking for some help with this.

I know that the current cpu\mb combo is i5 350\Gigabyte set up, but at the moment i just can't afford this, but need the whs back up and running.

Cpu  [url=http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Intel-Core-i3-530-Dual-Core-Clarkdale-32nm-293GHz-4MB-Cache-73W-Integrated-GPU-733MHz-Retail]null  £98.91

Motherboard  [url=http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigabyte-GA-H55-UD3H-Intel-H55-1156-PCI-E-%28x16%29-DDR3-1600-1800-2133-SATA-3GB-s-ATX-VGA]null  £89.95

Total £188.86

So was thinking the Amd route

Cpu  [url=http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-Sempron-140-Sargas-Core-Socket-AM3-27GHz-512KB-L2-Cache-HT-4000MHz-45W-Retail]null  £27.60

Motherboard  [url=http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigabyte-GA-MA785GT-UD3H-AMD-785G-AM3-DDR3-1066-1333-1800-SATA-3Gb-s-RAID-ATX-VGA]null  £74.95

Total £102.55

And in the future swap out the Sempron for something more up to date

system restore help needed

22 May 2010 - 02:39 PM

Hi all

I need some help with the following.

I upgraded the os disc to a 250gb sata disc, when i reinstall i get the option to either restore or clean install so i select restore.

Now it states that i will lose all non duplicated data of which i have none so i click go

It now says formatting system volume but after about 10 mins it appears to be less than 1\4 of the way finished formatting.

So would this appear correct i thought a couple of minutes to format a 250Gb drive or am i missing something [ don't want it formatting the data drives ]

Thanks

Robert

new motherboard cpu build recommendation needed

17 May 2010 - 05:45 AM

So after various problems that i was experiencing with my current build i moved over to my spare 775 rig and everything now seems to be okay.

So i need some help on a new board and cpu set up that will be able to stream hd material to 3-4 media centres around the home, and of course plenty of sata points

So what make and model of board would you pick at the moment and also what cpu to go with it ?

Thanks

Robert
