You could just swap the cpu for a low voltage cpu. I run older generation Xeons which are low voltage. They have a 40 watt thermal factor. I am sure they make low voltage CPUs in the 5000 series. Look them up. They probably start with an L
Since I have switched from domains to home server 2011, I don’t miss domain and policy management at all. There is just too much granularity for home use. The only thing I miss is DHCP and DNS server. Nice features if you want to run a routed network with vlans or multiple routers. So I understand your decision.
Why not just download the vendor's drive tools and low level the drive. You can
scan for bad sectors before starting over. That way if there was a problem with
the drive when it was removed you will find it beforehand.
