Will use WHS 2011 for as long as I can. Hoping that Microsoft will give us GPT support in an update rollup.

#48452 WHS Replacement Article - What Do You Think?

My opinion on the article was not flattering. What many people seem to overlook is that WHS is more than just network storage The centralized, single instance storage of the client PC backup function in WHS has no equal that I've found - certainly not at the current price point.

#45224 Windows 8 Issues

Doc - are you talking about the native photo app in Windows 8?  Why wouldn't you use Photo Gallery for photo management?

Yep, I'm assuming that he is talking about the "M" Photos App, since it can't deal with pictures held on WHS or network shares.

What really gets my goat about this issue is that the folks who worked on the Windows Photo Gallery application, such as Analy Otero, then moved on to working on the Photos App, and seem to have had a lobotomy. There's nothing in the new app that is an advance, but instead there's just been a massive step backwards.

Meanwhile, The Windows Photo Gallery desktop application has had a new release, and Microsoft still has not fixed a bug that they've acknowledged in 2010, and which has been around for far longer. They've also missed out on an opportunity to deliver an implementation of proposed industry standards on keyword hierarchies and face recognition that was published back in 2010. And Microsoft is one of the founding members of the cross-industry group that developed the standards in the first place.
