Cisco Anyconnect - Excel tabs dead slow when disconnected from vpn

26 April 2013 - 02:41 PM

Hey all,

I'll just throw this one out there. My girlfriend vpn's into work using Cisco Anyconnect. It works well enough. But when she's not using Anyconnect, not using the vpn, certain things on her laptop are excruciatingly slow. For example, switching between tabs in excel takes forever. She gets an 'Excel is not responding' message.  Also, if she attempts to open Devices and Printers, that too takes forever. Eventually, both Excel and Devices and Printers with respond but it literally takes minutes which is ridiculous since her laptop is an i7 with 8GB ram.

Can you guys think of anything that might be causing this?  Thanks!

Complete and utter mess after connector install

31 March 2013 - 04:38 PM

Background:

Yesterday, I installed WS2012E in a 2TB XenServer vm. Upon running the connector software, I observed my PC reboot into what can only be described as some sort of rogue PC refresh mode. When it was done with whatever 'setting things up' actions it decided to take, I was prompted to run Windows Easy Transfer. What the...??

Attached File  WS2012E connector - what I saw after 1st installing the connector.PNG   42.07K   33 downloads

In short, even after going through with the 'suspect' WET process, a number of my programs are now gone, some still exist but are no longer listed in 'Programs and Features' and all of my docs and download files are gone. One program that still exists but is no longer listed in P&F is XenCenter, the remote management for XenServer.  Dropbox is gone. This is nuts!

So what the heck happened? Anyway, I don't actually expect anyone to have answers as much as I just wanted to report a really weird and major glitch.  lol??  I guess...   :)

*Oh, and when I open Windows Explorer, it just searches and searches but doesn't display anything.

Bad SATA port - replace board? install PCI SATA card?

26 February 2013 - 08:47 AM

The  Atom Gigabyte GA-D510UD mobo in my daughter's v1 server has a bad SATA port. Here's the question: should I buy a SATA card for its PCI (not pcie) slot, or should I look at replacing the board?  The replacement must be mini ITX as that's the only size that'll fit the case - PC-Q09.  Overall, the performance has been solid and trouble-free so upgrading for better performance is not a motivating factor here.

In the meantime, I've moved the affected drive over to a working port and the server is back up and running.  Honestly, it makes me nervous when components start failing on a motherboard, though I realize it might continue to work for years without additional problems/failures.

What do you think?

  • Do nothing? It is working fine right now.
  • Install a PCI SATA card (again, PCIe not an option)
  • replace the mobo (mini-itx)

Thanks all!

Recommend a good SATA III PCIe card

04 June 2012 - 01:25 PM

I'm running out of SATA connections on my ASRock Z68 Pro3 mobo. I'm thinking about buying a SATA III PCIe card. Any good ones you can recommend?

I want to make sure there's actually 6Gb/s bandwidth available. Some of the reviews in Newegg mention that while a card may be rated 6Gb/s, sticking it in the wrong slot will limit the bandwidth. I only need a card with 2 to 4 connectors. Thanks.

*edit: I should have made it more clear that I'm looking for a non-RAID card.  I own a RocketRAID 2720 but I don't want to use it just to add connectors.
