I would call myself an enthusiast. I built my first computer, Windows 95, back in '95 with my brother's help. He's a programmer, and he insisted it was about time I had a computer. Well, I crashed that thing about 4 times that year poking about, once because I edited the kernel. 
But no problem as my programmer brother provided countless hours of patient tech support. Been learning ever since. These days, I provide tech support for family and friends.
