Unable to find Server

24 March 2013 - 08:36 PM

I'm trying to restore my laptop but I get a network error saying it's unable to find the Server. I've tried loading 32-bit drivers and still I'm unable to find the Server. I have an HP Pavilion g7-2320dx Notebook with a Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller. It must be an incompatibility issue with this controller because I can take the hard drive out, install it in another computer and it connects to the Server.

Verifying Port Forwarding Failed

18 March 2013 - 05:57 PM

I have a WHS V1 that has an error verifying port forwarding failed and if you go to Settings/Remote Access it says verifying connection. I'm using a DSL Modem IP 192.168.0.3 and Gateway IP 192.168.0.4. I have a Cisco Valet M10 Router IP 192.168.1.1. Should I change the Router IP to 192.168.0.2 so they are both on the same subnet?

Hyper-V Requirements

19 January 2013 - 08:27 PM

Does anybody know why I can run Hyper-V on Server 2012 but not on Windows 8 Pro? Windows 8 Pro requires a Second Level Address Translation enabled processor before it will let me enable Hyper-V. Why doesn't Server 2012 have this same requirement? Is there a way to bypass this requirement? FYI I was unable to start a new topic under Virtualization/Hyper-V.

WHS 2011 Backup To The Rescue

12 November 2012 - 05:52 PM

I am dual booting between Windows 7 and Windows 8. I have a RAID striped volume so I decided to install Intel's latest WIN8 compatible driver. Bad move. Launchpad stopped working and nothing I did would fix it. Finally I had to rely on a bare metal restore of my WIN8 partition.

On my first attempt WHS was unable to create the partition and suggested I use Disk Management to create the partition. Thanks to WHS 2011 you can click on Disk Management within Restore. I used Acronis TI 2012 to backup my partition just in case. Then I formatted the partition. Same problem. Hmm! I then deleted the partition, created a new partition and formatted the partition. This time my restore worked perfectly.

When my system rebooted it booted into Windows 7 and there was no boot manager. I used Visualbcd to automatically repair the BCD Store. Now my system dual boots correctly. Checked SSD Partition alignment and it was correct. Thank You WHS 2011!

Windows 8 and Hyper-V No Joy

13 October 2012 - 11:52 PM

I was all excited when I found out Windows 8 supported Hyper-V. Make sure your CPU supports SLAT (Second Level Address Translation). Unless you have an i-series CPU chances are it doesn't. I still use socket 775 CPU's so I'm outa luck:( You can run coreinfo.exe to determine if your CPU is compatible. http://technet.micro...s/cc835722.aspx Run it with the -v switch. If EPT has a dash, no joy.
