In Topic: HTPC Blu-Ray Playback Problems

Well, I'm not sure about the HDCP part or how to check the version or even update it. I don't think that's what it is at least in whole. Its beginning to appear to me that the HDDs can't keep up with the decryption of the movie at times. Both the HTPC and my laptop both have 5400 rpm HDDs. So maybe that's somewhat a factor. I've played other Blu-ray discs on both systems just fine. Right now I'm contemplating getting a standalone Blu-ray player. Thank you ikon and pcdoc for the help.

I've tried this on two different Blu-ray drives with the same results. The first was on my HTPC which has a Samsung BD drive and my laptop BD drive which is a Sony Optiarc BD-5500S. Neither of these have a driver update either.

Thanks for the reply pcdoc. I'm finally back from vacation and had a chance to take a look at this yesterday (Saturday). I ripped Star Wars Eposode I to the local hard drive like you suggested. I played the first hour of the movie and it played without any problems at all. When I did this from the Blu-ray disk, the movie picture and sound scrambled in several places, but not always in the same locations. So now I'm puzzled as to what might be causing this. I tried playing the movie again from the disc, this time I disabled the background programs that were running, like anti-virus, etc. The movie is still stuttering, so if there is a process causing an issue I've not found it. While I was doing this I was viewing the resource monitor, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for there. Nothing odvious stuck out. Any ideas where to look? Thanks for the help.

At first I was using Arcsoft TMT 3, but Star Wars would not play with that. I upgraded to TMT 5 and now it will play somewhat, but with the problems I mentioned in the original post. That's where it stands right now, as I've not had time to work on it. Thanks.

In Topic: WHS v1 Expansion With Samsung 2TB AFD.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. I think I'm going to go the route of attaching the drives to my other Win7 machine and run the alignment tool there. I'll then add the drives to the eSATA enclosure attached to WHS v1 and add it to the storage pool. Thanks again. I guess I made a false assumption that all advanced format drives have the 7/8 realignment jumpers; I'll be more mindful in the future when ordering drives.
