In Topic: Lights Out, WHS won't come out of hibernation

07 February 2011 - 04:54 AM

Thanks DVN, no problem, but I think you had it right. I think the issue is not the command but the PAE mode preventing it (the earlier error msg), no hiberfil.sys either. The one thing that changed was I had 2G of memory originally - when i rebuilt I put in 4G - so it looks like from some initial reading of PAE mode, PAE now operates and prevents the powercfg /hibernate command from functioning.

lights out puts the server into hibernation it just doesn't come out of hiberbation.

I am going to reinstall light out again and see what happens.

cheers
Chris

Still no joy - reinstall with latest lights out and latest drivers for LAN and motherboard didn't help - any thoughts appreciated

Sorry, Chris. My bad. That's the command for Windows 7.

For WHS:
powercfg /hibernate off
powercfg /hibernate on

To see hidden system files:
Open Windows Explorer >Tools>Folder Options...>View>Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)>Apply

If hibernation is enabled, you'll see hiberfil.sys in the system root.

MS powercfg info for Server 2003

Thanks - I assume that's on the whs?

Tried the powercfg command with the following
------------------------------------------------
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>powercfg -h off
Hibernation failed with the following error: The request is not supported.

The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
The system is running in PAE mode, and hibernation is not allowed in PAE mode.
---------------------------------------------------
not sure what this means

Also can't find the "hiberfil" on the whs

thanks
Chris
