Using IDE mode didn't help in the original case. After installing, I'd get a BSOD on reboot.  Turns out that the disk I burned from the trial download was bad.  I was able to install in IDE mode, which is fine for my testing.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a WHS v1 using an older Compaq AMD mobo, and am testing new hardware using the 30-day evaluation copy of WHS. Like Grison and a few others on this post, I had selected the Gigabyte GA-H55-USB3 and an Intel i3-530 CPU with 4 GB 1333 RAM. The new box had been my Vail test bed, but with the current beta version expiring on Jan 10, I thought I'd try to get the new hardware working on WHS v1.

I'm having a few challenges, and hope that some suggestions from this group could help.

1. I did not wipe the Vail drives before starting the install.
2. The SATA ports are set up as AHCI.
3. The system drive is a Seagate 250GB IDE drive
4. SATA drives were disconnected during install
5. Downloaded drivers from the Gigabyte site for Server 2003, using the XP driver for LAN

The challenges

A. The SATA drives are not recognized when I reconnect to add to the pool. I started with a WD-10EACS 1TB, but also have a Samsung H204UI and a pair of jumpered WD-20EARS drives in the box.

B. WHS does not seem to recognize the SMBIOS and an undefined PCI device in the computer. There are no add-in cards.

I plan to start from scratch, wiping all drive partitions first, but if someone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate reading them.

Thanks,
Larry
